I have been working on a project for Automat - a company the uses a group of retired cigarette vending machines to sell art instead of cigarettes. They are very retro and very cool and come in great colors and designs. There are over 100 machines in business all over the US and a few other countries. My work was selected so I have completed the first 50 pieces. The final product has a cellophane wrapper and will be added to machines in different locations. Each one sells for $5.00 - so the lucky buyer gets an original piece of at for five bucks!
This first series is called Little Houses and I used the song Little Boxes by Malvina Reynolds for inspiration.
Here are photos in chronological order from plain wood blocks when I just started paintings to the final wrapped product.
I went out for a ride the other day and due to a late night I decided that I was not going to break any land-speed cycling records so I decided to just enjoy the ride and shoot some photos. The sky was a perfect cloudless blue and the rooftops looked so well contrasted against the sky. So here are five images shot from Martinez to Pleasant Hill to Walnut Creek and back to Martinez. I feel like this could be a fun photographic journal of rising through the burbs.
It's no secret that I love black and white design. Being able to use a minimum of color - black and white are technically not colors but for the sake of this paragraph, let's just say they are - is a challenge and a fun one at that. I will be in a few shows this summer and I have decided to focus most of the work on this minimalist idea. Here are a few new works on 6x6 panels. They are full of layers to get the most in depth and then coated with gel medium to again make it pop and add depth. Check back here for dates and locations of the shows.
It's been awhile since I created images for wall decor. I have been wrapped up with finishing my book and then making digital downloads for my Etsy shop. I missed creating new images for posters so here are three new pieces...two abstract landscapes and one simple splashy abstract in colors I don't typically use. As always they are available on Artist Rising, and if there is a particular size you are looking for just ask. These are designed to be easy to crop.
Have an awesome day.
Fish
It's the name of my book.
Well - it's actually more like a zine. It's a zine of 32 pages.
Lists. Short stories. Photos of my original art. And of my feet. Musings.
I just felt like writing this and I am constantly inspired by the writings of authors who write with a stream of consciousness style. I'm working at it.
And for now we have Fish.
It's a limited edition of 12 copies. But I'm keeping one so there are eleven left.
Here you go. On Etsy.
The paws belong to McGuyver the Puggle
Here are four new originals I just got back from the framer. The framer is also my husband so I am biased...but still - they are perfect. The black and white abstract landscapes are called Slumber & Awake. They are mixed media on vellum using conte crayon, chalk and graphite. The other two are Skinny Legs 1 & 2. These are pen and ink on vellum and dried flowers for the skirts...
Because these are small images imagine them in a setting like a salon wall or consider them for that narrow wall that you just can't figure out how to decorate. Maybe these can carry on their own and make a statement in a small space. Black and white art for minimal spaces and modern and clean style.
I've been trying to figure out what works best on a digital download site. I looked at what others do and then thought about the end user. The buyer is printing it out. What color ink is the buyer most likely going to have in the printer? Black of course. Often printers are designed to carry two cartridges of black. So perhaps offering black and white designs is the way to go...thus I created a series. Just think how great they would looked paired up in a room with bright pillows or a colorful wall?
I have a Pinterest board dedicated to All Things Black and White. Now picture this art displayed like some of these amazing rooms.
