More landscapes - all cleaned up.

I am finally grabbing a few minutes to scan and clean the paintings from the 100 Day Project. It takes a LONG time to scan 100 paintings. It's not for the faint of heart. So here are several paintings that I have scanned at 600 DPI.

Squares meet Rectangles

I'm inspired by Scandinavian art lately and how the work is so minimal and clean. So I decided to play around with simple shapes and crisp tones and came up with this group. I'm thinking of making
about twenty of these so I can 1. practice composition 2. work with color and compatibility.

I'ts a lot harder than it looks. Sometimes the simplest things are the ones that have the least amount of room for error.

Ta da!

I am way behind on posting the final group. So here's 97,98,99 & 100.  I'm excited to be done but at the same time I'm a little lost - it was a great 100 Days. Now I'm thinking about what's next. Maybe using some of these as studies for larger pieces? Especially the more representational abstracts - I think those would translate well as large pieces.

Things I learned.
1. Enjoy the process
2. Take chances
3. No fear
4. Don't be afraid to fail. If it's bad tear it up and begin again.
5. Find the joy in creating. If you aren't finding joy then change direction
6. Try colors outside your comfort zone. ie. bubble gum pink

***I am making these available for sale. To see the whole collection go to my Instagram page and browse. Tell me what number and I will send you a Pay Pal invoice.  (#99 is sold)
$35.00 for each original
$50.00 matted in white
+ shipping. $3.00 for US shipping. $15.00 for international

The Process...

Here I am at Day 85 of the 100 Day Project. My work has shifted, changed, altered, grown and revised over these 85 days. Some artists who do this project stay in the same theme - and I tried...I really did...but my short attention span does not allow for that so that is the reason for my work evolving over the course of these months.

The four pieces below are all No. 84. I captured images of the stages which I thought was a fun and active way to show the process. Such simple layers moving and growing and taking shape. I enjoy abstract landscapes a lot...the unstructured style allows for freedom in my work. I'm thinking these may work as a study for a larger piece but as we know larger paintings are more of a struggle for me...but perhaps that's the lesson here...struggle and risk equals growth.

Feeling philosophical

I go through my new age moments and I'm in one now. I think it's the political climate. I need to go to a quiet place and find things that are peaceful and draw on positive energy. So I was inspired to create these three new digital downloads on Etsy. The "Be Here Now" quote stands out because it is a gentle reminder to be in the present. I can't change what happened yesterday. I have no power over tomorrow. I am where I need to be right now.

The yoga quote is also a reminder...eat more plants...do more yoga...because both of those things make my body feel better.

I Digress...

Hubby and I went to Palm Springs last weekend and while I stepped away from my own art for three days we walked into a whole other art world which is what I love about this community. Palm Springs and the surrounding area supports and values artists. From Joshua Tree to Pioneer Town to all the odd and quirky desert stops along the way.

While we were there we visited one outdoor installation from the Desert X show - this is a glass house by Doug Aitken - and here's a link.  #desertx

Plus some property porn in the Palm Canyon neighborhood. Including That Pink Door.

And finally - The Integratron - which defies explanation. But I will give you a hint...sound and aliens.

Now I feel energized and inspired to get back my own creations. what are you creating this week?

Pulling off The Glam

I buy display photos from stock photo houses and use them as way to digitally feature and display my art. I have been using more casual and rustic looks. However - my images felt stale and needed a pick me up. And - noticing the trends to shiny glam looks (hello 1970's) I decided to purchase a gold frame display and then I dropped my images onto these. It was such a profound change - from casual and cute to elegant and glam. I'm loving the look and I feel like it adds so much sophistication to these prints. Below are a few examples and feel free to browse the collection of (as of today) 294 images. All of these prints are available as digital downloads on my Etsy shop.

100 Days and more paintings

This project continues and I'm now on Day 55. I learn from each one and I learn to fail. Not every piece is a success so then I can what works and what doesn't. Some are too heavy handed - something I struggle with and others have composition that seems off - or forced. And others just work...like a puzzle - it fits into place.

Here are four more paintings. I will be selling each of these for $35.00 and then if you want them matted it will be $50.00 + shipping.

Numbers 45, 50, 51, 53 - in order below. Mixed media on paper...each piece is approximately 6"x 9".

100 Days of Art - the latest

I completely shifted my plan here and went into mixed media. I'm loving this because it's so free. I have had a few fails - but we all have right? So here are 32, 33 & 34 - mixed media on paper with acrylic and pencil with a little collage thrown in. I still need to scan them all and I have sold a few which is so fun!

Enjoy.

And remember to check my Instagram for all new daily projects. #100dayproject

100 Days of Art

I decided to do the 100 Day Project this year and basically it's to create 100 pieces of art in 100 days. At first I thought it was fairly simple and I would create and post and there you go but as I am working on this I am realizing that it's a lot more. It's about trying something new or trying something that might not work at all and I know that but to just do it anyway! So that's where I am at. I started with doing abstracts but wasn't feeling it so now I am painting minimalist structures and that is fun.
Here are four pieces from that group - each one painted on paper in acrylic - they are around 5x8 inches and when they are all done I will make most available for sale and then see what happens. Enjoy. :)

ACLU Fundraiser

I created this piece - an affordable digital download because I truly feel our nation is at risk - we are in a constitutional crisis. This simple digital download is only $4.95 and 100% of whatever I make in sales for this poster will go directly to the ACLU

Here are just a few of the actions that the ACLU works on:

  • Fighting efforts to suppress free speech and the right to protest
  • Defending people who were unconstitutionally jailed for being too poor to pay court fines
  • Working to defend people who are being discriminated against under the banner of religion
The quote I chose just speaks to me - that no matter how much they try to suppress our voices we will be heard. So - for just $5.00 you will receive this download that you print out yourself and hang up in your office, your dorm room, your kitchen, bathroom - wherever!

Thank you so much!!

Life's Little Surprises

Life sends surprises which are fun...add interest...are definitely a distraction...and add inspiration. So the other day a customer contacted me and told me that my art was featured on page 70 of the latest HGTV Magazine. I was thrilled! And I wanted to find it....so after searching a few stores I picked it up at a drugstore and flipped through it to be certain and sure enough there it was page 70...and page 4...and page 69! Wow...that was unexpected. So here is is - the March issue of HGTV...thank you thank you to this fun and colorful magazine.   and by the way - it's called Deconstructed Landscape and can be found here on Art.com.

Retro or modern?

I shot these photos a few weeks back in Palm Springs and then I posted them on Instagram using one of their filters. I love the way they look like they were shot many years ago - especially the one with the car. We saw the car on the street and then walked by this house and there was the car in the driveway so we stopped right away and captured this. There was an alarm sign in the front but with a little Photoshop magic I was able to make that disappear. #palmsprings #laspalmas
