and then came orchid...
The 2014 Pantone Color of the Year is orchid. To celebrate I created these two orchid florals. And then I went to the West Coast Art and Frame Expo in Las Vegas and to my pleasure I saw lots of aqua! Not only that - there were ethereal greens and soft blues and watery tones that felt peaceful and calm and cool. Here are my contributions.

Numbers 15-21
Here you go - numbers 15-21. I know I said it would be a drawing a day but...things change...we all have to adapt. :) What happened was that I would have my sketch book with me when I was working in my studio so while I was waiting for paint to dry I would paint in the sketch book and it's just really fun!
Thus - a drawing a day becomes...a creation a day.

From kinda blah to bold!
I was playing around with mountain shapes - layered from dark to light - bold craggy mountains. I liked what I came up with but then thought - you know - it looks kinda blah. These mountains need something! Something to make them energetic and captivating and something that will make me want to climb them them! (no - not really). Sunrays...yes - sunrays - that's what they need. Thankfully I saved the layers in Photoshop and created the sunrays and dropped them in behind the mountains. What a difference. I'm kinda digging these. Your thoughts?

numbers 8-14
My Drawing a Day project continues. This week's went better than last. I took more chances...played with paint...worked fast...and went in a direction that I don't normally go in. What I am learning now is that this is a great way to try out new styles or techniques and - again - to take chances. I tend to be so afraid of making a mistake and ruining my project that I will end up taking away the opportunity to learn something and to grow as an artist. My theme here is - allow for mistakes!
Enjoy and thanks for visiting.

More origami...
I completed Pythagoras Wept, I, II, III, IV. 6x6 mixed media on wood panel. This was a certainly a test in patience as every line had to be perfect and many little touch-ups were necessary.
I am happy with the final outcome and I'm looking forward to adding more to this series. I imagine a whole wall full!

a drawing a day - the 1st seven....
Last summer I came up with the idea to do a drawing a day for every day of 2014. What was I thinking? And then I posted it on Facebook and now I clearly had to do it. So - here we go - the first seven. Please bear with me as I get more into this project - I feel like the first group is a little weak and may take time to feel like I am completely immersed in this project. Drawing is a muscle and it's something I need to do on a regular basis to stretch my artistic muscles.

1st painting in 2014...
Here's the first one...and more to come soon. I have a chance to have my original work in a pop-up shop at the San Francisco Airport which is very exciting and an opportunity to have so many more people - travelers from near and far - who can see my art. I believe the show begins at the end of January - I will post when I know more.
For now - here is the first one a series called Pythagoras Wept.
