The Do Over

I had this spare 30x40 wood panel substrate that was begging me for a painting. But you know I paint small so this was going to be a challenge.

  • The first iteration was a striped landscape. It felt forced.
  • The second iteration was better but dark and lacked energy.
  • The third iteration nearly didn't make it but when I had the mixed media details of charcoal and conte crayon plus the paint splatters in the foreground it worked. Yes! I had success.

I had to listen to my inner critic here and to tell myself that if it didn't feel good then to continue working on it. Simply put - if you don't like the painting you have nothing to lose by continuing to work on it. If you don't work on the painting what is the alternative? It sits in your studio and does nothing - pleases no one and has no life.

And now it goes to the photographer for a high res capture - and then to my framer at Clayton Valley Frameworks and then it becomes available for sale.  #lifeisgood
